MIT researchers placed a roughly two-nanometre polymer film between gold electrodes. Voltage compressed the film and changed its current. Because the material relaxed gradually, successive pulses could accumulate until the device produced a neuron-like firing response.
Why it matters
A material’s physical behaviour can perform some of the memory and processing operations used in brain-inspired computing.
Keep in mind
This is a laboratory device demonstration. The paper’s much lower, roughly 2-femtojoule energy prospect is a projection requiring reduced leakage and further engineering. Practical networks, training methods and whole-system energy advantages remain to be demonstrated.

Entanglement measured through the decay of Z bosons
ATLAS reconstructed the spin correlations of two Z bosons created when a Higgs boson decayed. The directions of four resulting electrons or muons favoured an entangled quantum state, beyond a mixture of separate quantum states for each boson.
Why it matters
This extends experimental tests of quantum entanglement to short-lived particles produced at the Large Hadron Collider.
Keep in mind
The result depends on the tested hypotheses, including the Higgs spin and symmetry assumptions and the Standard Model description of Z decays. It establishes evidence within that framework; a Bell-inequality test was outside this analysis.

Gemini Robotics ER 2 uses video to coordinate physical tasks

The announcement reports controlled evaluations and demonstrations. Google reports 57.4% accuracy on its progress-classification task, showing that tracking completion remains fallible. Deployment also depends on robot hardware and controllers.

Rewriting bacterial DNA exposed hidden dependencies
Researchers changed large stretches of bacterial DNA while preserving the intended protein instructions. Many changes still disrupted the cells. Measuring DNA, RNA and proteins together helped them find faults and improve growth, showing how closely these layers depend on each other.

Changing one layer of a living system can disturb several others.

These were controlled bacterial experiments. Growth effects depended on the strain and environment; applications in other organisms need separate testing.

Agent research measures consistency and the severity of failures
Rabanser and colleagues propose twelve reliability measures covering consistency, robustness, predictability and safety. The current version evaluates fifteen models on two benchmarks and finds that recent capability gains produced only small reliability improvements.

Changing a social-media feed changed some political opinions
A randomised study assigned US X users to different feeds for seven weeks in 2023. Switching on the recommendation algorithm shifted some policy and current-event opinions towards conservative positions. The findings were published in Nature in February 2026.

Software changes what people encounter, which can influence attention, beliefs and the accounts they follow.

A small DMT trial found short-term depression improvement
A phase IIa trial found an early symptom benefit when DMT was delivered with psychological support.

The sample was small and the blinded comparison was short. Later follow-up included open-label treatment, which weakens causal comparisons. Transient anxiety, nausea and infusion-site pain occurred. Results for this N,N-DMT formulation cannot be transferred to other compounds such as 5-MeO-DMT.

Injectable NAD+ has limited evidence and distinct safety concerns

A rebuilt molecular motor made ATP with a weaker driving force
Cells use a rotating protein machine to make ATP, a molecule that powers many cell activities. Researchers altered a bacterial version so it could make ATP under a weaker electrical and chemical driving force, using more charged particles for each ATP.

It connects physics to biology: particle movement turns a molecular motor, which drives a chemical reaction.

Ancient DNA adds evidence of connections between early civilisations
Researchers sequenced the genome of a man buried in Egypt around 2855–2570 BCE. Comparisons with available ancient DNA linked most of his ancestry to North African populations and about one-fifth to the eastern Fertile Crescent, including Mesopotamia.

Biology can add evidence to archaeology’s account of how people moved and societies connected.

This is one individual. The ancestry estimates depend on available comparison samples. More genomes are needed to describe the diversity of ancient Egypt or the timing and routes of migration.

The authors interpret the genetic similarity as evidence that contact included human migration. Radiocarbon dating places this individual near the transition into Egypt’s Old Kingdom, extending the genetic record much further back.
An early choice changed which evidence people used
People watched a series of dots and judged where they came from. After making an early choice, they gave more weight to later evidence supporting it. Brain measurements suggested contradictory information was still represented, while contributing less to the final answer.
Why it matters
Seeing useful evidence and allowing it to change a decision are separate steps.
Studied in 34 adults recruited; 30 remained after recording exclusions, with 29 in key neural comparisons.

A small laboratory task offers limited evidence about complex real-world beliefs. The study inferred information use statistically and did not test a practical cure for bias.

Radiocarbon and handwriting analysis suggest older dates for some scrolls
Researchers combined radiocarbon dating with AI analysis of handwriting to estimate the age of Dead Sea Scroll manuscripts. Their estimates often placed copies earlier than traditional handwriting assessments, opening fresh discussion about the history of ancient Jewish texts.

At CERN, fast-moving lead nuclei passed close together. Their intense electromagnetic fields could knock three protons out of a nucleus, changing lead into gold. A 2025 study measured this process through the particles released during these near misses.

An element's identity depends on the proton count inside its atomic centre.

The nuclei rapidly struck accelerator equipment and fragmented. The quantities and short survival time make this unsuitable for producing usable gold.

A 2024 study collected predictions from 2,778 AI researchers. Responses expressed substantial uncertainty about advanced AI, and different questions about capabilities and the automation of jobs produced markedly different timelines.
