We are each other

Sometimes I look at who I am and see little pieces of so many other people. Their ideas, their experiences, things they have said that stayed with me. We learn so much from each other.

I was a high-school dropout. A lot of my learning came through meeting people I could learn from. YPO has been instrumental in that. I am a member, and I see it as a lifelong part of my learning.

There is a saying that you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. I recognise something in that. The people around me influence the way I think, what I consider possible and what I learn. I take the saying as a reminder to pay attention to that influence.

I follow Rory Sutherland and Kunal Shah. Dan Sullivan and Strategic Coach have given me tools I continue to use. Joe Dispenza’s work has also been part of what I read.

Films and TV are part of this as well. The Matrix and Terminator 2 inspired me. MacGyver was my guy. I especially liked Darth Vader in Star Wars.

Even with someone whose style I do not connect with personally, I can value what I learn from their work. I feel that way about Alex Hormozi. I enjoyed his book.

When I think about how much of me has come through other people, it brings humility. Whatever I am, so many people and their experiences have contributed to it. We are each other.
