Sitting quietly in a room

There's a line from Pascal I like. In one English translation of Pensées, he writes that “all the unhappiness of men arises from one single fact, that they cannot stay quietly in their own chamber”.

I grew up in Pakistan in the 1980s. My parents called me distracted and talkative. They didn't know what to make of it.

Maybe it was an undiagnosed attention deficit disorder. I don't know.

I've learned to live with it. I kind of like it now.

When I'm building and learning, I'm not in pain.
