Greedy to learn
I became very greedy in learning. I still am.
YPO gave me a taste for it. Then I wanted to try everything: Tony Robbins, Joe Dispenza, NLP, anything that helped me understand human psychology.
I attended executive courses at Harvard and London Business School. Before sitting in those classrooms, I felt embarrassed. I imagined everyone else being so educated and me not knowing shit. I ended up having a great experience.
Sometimes I wonder how much of my learning has also been about proving something. When you have been told you are useless, you can carry that around for a long time.
My father once told me, ‘You will never amount to anything in life.’ That sentence stayed with me. It gave me something to push against. I am still trying to prove it to him, and he has died. Hey Dad. I am sure you are proud of me.
An ex-girlfriend said something similar. She was very wealthy, and I grew up in a society where status mattered a lot. When I look back, I can see how some of these things connect.
I can enjoy learning and still question what is driving it. Curiosity is there. So is some residue of wanting to show people that I can do something.
